The Brick launches 'Operation Red Friday', the first ever pre-Holiday extravaganza in Canadian Retail History! | | | /NOT FOR RELEASE OVER US NEWSWIRE SERVICES/
EDMONTON, AB, Sept. 19 /CNW/ - The Brick is urging all Canadian retailers to come together and offer Canadian shoppers an extravaganza that makes shopping at home for the holidays an experience worth waiting for! The Brick President and CEO, Kim Yost, has declared Friday, November 28, 2008 the official launch date for 'Operation Red Friday' - Canada's answer to Black Friday in the United States. The Brick is proposing retailers go "head to head with our retail cousins in the south" on this day. Black Friday in the United States refers to Thanksgiving Friday, where it is the beginning of the traditional holiday shopping season. Black Friday is not an official holiday, but many employees are off and take advantage of that day to begin their holiday shopping and it is one of the busiest retail shopping days of the year. "Spending by Canadians in the U.S. increased over the past year so we believe that 'Operation Red Friday' will provide an added incentive for Canadian consumers to stay at home and enjoy great savings as they begin their holiday shopping," Yost said. While the Brick is poised to launch a full 'Operation Red Friday' campaign, it wants to share the information with other retailers across the country so they can include this initiative in their marketing calendars for November 2008. 'Operation Red Friday' will be an important first step for Canadian retailers to support the very important fourth quarter or Golden Quarter, and it will provide Canadians with an amazing value shopping day before Christmas," says Yost, adding that he is hopeful that 'Operation Red Friday' may become The Brick's second largest retail day next only to Boxing Day. As part of The Brick's marketing plan, stores will be open from 7:00 a.m. to Midnight on Friday, November 28. Savings of 20%, 30%, 40%, and up to 50% on selected products will be offered throughout the store. A TV campaign will run nationwide along with a 10,000,000 flyer distribution. The Brick urges the Retail Council of Canada, the Shopping Centre community, Business Improvement Associations across Canada, Canadian Tour Operators and other sectors to support 'Operation Red Friday' to ensure that Canadians shop at home this coming Holiday Season.
The Brick employs over 7,500 Canadians from coast to coast, and is a proud contributor to the growth and well being of this great country. "Let's work together to create excitement, provide added-value to Canadian consumers while promoting economic expansion at home," added Mr. Yost.
The Brick Group, together with its subsidiaries, is one of Canada's largest volume retailers of household furniture, mattresses, appliances and home electronics, operating under four principal banners: The Brick, United Furniture Warehouse, The Brick Superstore and The Brick Mattress Store. In addition, through its corporate sales division, The Brick Group services the subdivision, condominium, and high-rise builder market.
